Getting Better at Illustration
I have always had a love for illustration and digital art. A few days ago, I decided to really get better at illustration as I wanted to make interfaces more delightful. Visuals can really bring positive emotions to people. I made use of the SketchBook program on my Surface Pro 6. Turns out it wasn’t so hard to use! I usually prefer a Wacom tablet that has pen pressure so lines can appear softer. However, with illustration, I found that I mostly needed to draw shapes and colour with texture brushes to get a certain style. More of my work can be seen on my project page.
Here’s a look at my first latest illustration:
I took about four hours to make this and I looked at tutorials to see if there were tricks to learn. There are honestly so many amazing illustrators out there and so much to learn. I had so much fun that I went on to make my next one! My favourite one so far that was inspired by a dream I had last night about trying to get a lot done.
The biggest lesson I learned from doing these is that nothing is perfect when you first start out and it doesn’t have to be. Be patient and work hard and eventually you can improve it. I hope to weave my illustrations into interfaces to make them exciting and delightful to see.
Stay tuned for more of my work!
